AOW is compatible with iPad Air 2 (Wi-Fi+Cellular), iPad mini 3 or later (Wi-Fi+Cellular), and iPad Pro (Wi-Fi+Cellular). All models must be running iOS 9.1 or later, and be used with an Apple SIM.
You can buy an Apple SIM kit at an Apple Retail Store in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Turkey
If you buy one of the compatible iPad models from a carrier retail store, it might come with a carrier-specific SIM that only works on that carrier's network. Check with your carrier for details.
When you activate a cellular data plan with certain carriers, your Apple SIM might be dedicated to that carrier's network. A dedicated SIM means you can't activate it on another carrier's network. For example, if you activate an AT&T plan on your iPad, your Apple SIM will be dedicated to AT&T's network. Your iPad remains unlocked, so you can buy another Apple SIM.
In order to activate a plan you must have a cellular enabled iPad, an Apple SIM card and must be within our network coverage.
To start, go to the Settings Menu, press Cellular (or Mobile) Data, Set Up Cellular Data. This will bring up a list of carriers. Pick AlwaysOnline and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once you’ve selected the plan that is right for you press continue and you’ll be prompted to enter your personal information in order to create an account if you are a new customer or you can login if you’ve purchased a plan before.
Before completing the plan purchase you’ll be prompted to review your order. Once you press the Place Order button your plan activation will begin.
Once the plan is activated you will see a notification on the iPad confirming data is active and that it is connected to AlwaysOnline in the top left of the screen.
No. Using iPad with an Apple SIM means you can choose and configure your AOW plan without needing a Wi-Fi connection.
Yes. If you buy another plan while an existing plan is still active, the data amount left on your existing plan will be added to your new plan, and the expiry date will be reset to the length of the new plan.
Example: You buy a 3 hour plan with 150MB of data. After 2 hours, you have 10MB of data left and buy another 3 hour plan. The plan will now have 160MB of data and expire in 3 hours.
Yes. We have separate plans for each country so you must purchase a new plan for each country you plan on visiting. At this time we do not have multi-country plans.
Plans are dedicated per country, so if you have an active plan and travel to another country, you will not be able to use any remaining data and will need to purchase a new plan for the new country you are visiting.
If you have data remaining on your existing plan and purchase a new plan for the country you are now visiting, the data from the previous plan will be added to the new plan. If you return to the previous country however, you will need to purchase a new plan for this country and any remaining data on your current plan will carry over again.
Yes. To activate the Personal Hotspot function on your iPad, go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile) Data > Personal Hotspot and switch the feature to ON.
Your AOW account is completely managed from within the iPad device.

There are a few things you can check if you have an active plan and cannot use data:
Coverage: First to make sure you are in an area with coverage, look at the network indicator in the top left corner of the iPad’s screen. If you are connected to AlwaysOnline you are in an area with coverage. If the connection toggles between Searching and iPad, it’s possible you are outside of the coverage area.
Airplane Mode: Next, try resetting the network connection by turning on Airplane Mode. To do this go into the Settings Menu, switch Airplane Mode on for 5 seconds and then turn it off. Your iPad will then attempt to re-connect to the network and establish a data connection.
Data Balance: If this doesn’t work, check your data balance to ensure there is still data left on your plan and that it hasn’t expired. To do this go to the Settings Menu on your iPad, press Cellular (or Mobile) Data and then choose the Manage AlwaysOnline account option. Here you’ll be able to see how much data you’ve used and how much is left as well as the expiry of the plan. If you’ve used all the data in your plan or it has expired, you can purchase a new plan directly from this screen by pressing the Buy a New Plan button. Note: If you’ve used up all the data on your plan but it hasn’t expired yet, you will be able to use data at reduced speeds, which will allow you to purchase another plan.
If you’ve tried the suggested troubleshooting steps and still cannot get data on your iPad, contact our technical support team.
Your plan starts immediately after the checkout process is complete and your device is automatically configured for the country that you’re in. You will receive an email confirmation of your order, and see an on-screen confirmation of your iPad being configured.
The plan expiry date is set based on the plan start date, and will vary depending on the length of plan purchased.

If you don’t see AOW listed, try troubleshooting with these steps:
Coverage: Make sure you are in a country where we offer service. Check our coverage map.
Apple SIM: Next make sure that you have an Apple SIM properly inserted in your device, and that the SIM is not dedicated to another carrier network. For example, if you activate an AT&T plan on your iPad, your Apple SIM will be dedicated to AT&T's network. Your iPad remains unlocked, so you can buy another Apple SIM.
If you’ve tried the suggested troubleshooting steps and still cannot see the AOW network, contact our technical support team.
Purchase of AOW plans and services are limited to visitors and non-residents in some countries. If your billing address is within one of these countries, your order cannot be processed. For a full list of countries, refer to the Coverage section of this site.
